May 26, 2008: Jersey Shore Restaurant Reviews

Stories and Photos By Joe Zlomek

Freda's Cafe, 210 Ocean St, #1, Cape May, NJ 08204

Cross Streets: Near the intersection of Ocean St and Carpenter Ln

An intimate lunch and dinner restaurant near the east end of the Cape May NJ pedestrian shopping mall. Menu specials are posted on a white board in the front window. It offers an interesting mix of sandwiches and salads for lunch (we visited May 26, 2008, Memorial Day weekend); the crab soup is particularly good. Wait staff during our visit was limited to two at noon, and was inadequate for the number of patrons at the time. Our wait from order placement to service was longer than expected for a party of four. Meal including tip was $43, or $10.75 per person without dessert or alcohol. We were satisfied over all, would return, and would recommend it to others.

The Hard Rock Cafe on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City NJ has an entrance, above, from inside the Trump Taj Mahal casino. The restaurant is acceptable for family dining, below, but during our visit the music was exceptionally loud. 2008-05-26.

Environment and fare typical of the Hard Rock franchise: appetizers to be consumed with beer, wine or specialty drinks; a bunch of burgers, a bunch of spicy stuff, and serviceable but ordinary dinners. In this particular restaurant, housed within the Trump Taj Mahal on the southwest end of the Atlantic City NJ boardwalk, the music was unusually loud during our visit. For dinner May 26, 2008, at 6 p.m., after a brisk walk down the boardwalk, we chose hot sandwiches and were satisfied but would not recommend. Meal including tip for our party of four was $63, or $15.75 per person without dessert or alcohol.
